Chapter 555 Vacation Photos, Book Related — and Maybe Chocolate, Too

I’m still trying to keep up with the end-of-school-year pace around here. In the meantime, I saw several book-related things while I was in San Francisco this past weekend and thought I’d share them with you.

I know it’s dark, but do you recognize this building?

That’s right. It’s the legendary City Lights Bookstore.

Adjacent to the store, at the corner of Columbus and Broadway, is a suspended sculpture of a bunch of open books. The sculpture is called “Language of the Birds”.

Every few minutes, all the books light up. Beautiful. (Sorry for the fuzzy photo. Pictures taken in the dark don’t turn out very well.)

Next door to City Lights is a fun place to hang out and have a drink. In fact, I went here a while back with some other booksellers after a book fair.

And, of course, last but not least, a chocolate shop in North Beach. Books and chocolate go so well together. 😉

Back again as soon as I can!

See you in the stacks!

  1. Jill

Chris, your post made me smile — Bob and I were in North Beach the weekend before you, and we went to the exact same places! We went to City Lights to browse, and Bob got his chocolate fix at the candy store, and we had a drink at Vesuvio in honor of Jack Kerouac. North Beach is my favorite part of S.F. Have a great holiday weekend!

  2. Thanks, Jill. North Beach is one of my favorite spots, too!

  3. I love reading, and just know that there is a great legendary bookstore in North Beach from this post. can you make a post detailing this store ?
