Chapter 524 Tavistock Books Offers Workshop for Booksellers

I’m working on a short article about my experiences at Rare Book School last summer. In the meantime, courtesy of Tavistock Books, here’s another educational opportunity for booksellers (particularly for anyone in the Bay Area, but I also know of people who have traveled to attend) that I think will be worth your while:

The seventh, not-quite-annual “Reference Book” workshop will be hosted by Tavistock Books on Saturday May 8th, 2010. The workshop will be held at my shop in Alameda CA, 10 – 4 PDT [or so].

The workshop’s primary focus will be to provide a “hand’s-on” opportunity see & use the reference books needed to explore the research side of book valuation as detailed in the methodology presented here.

The day will mainly look at 4 subject areas [though digressions are expected!]:

1. Literature, including Modern First Editions.
2. Americana, with an emphasis on California & the West.
3. Childrens Books.
4. Early printed books, with a focus on books printed in English.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a book or two that has “been on a back shelf awaiting cataloguing”, which the class can use as a research example.

There is NO FEE to attend this workshop. Due to the physical
dimensions of the shop itself, the number of attendees is limited to 7. If you are one of the first 7 to register, I do ask you make
every attempt to attend… last minute cancellations deprive others who may not have responded as quickly.

Lunch will be hosted by Tavistock Books at the ever friendly & popular Katsu Sushi Restaurant across the street.
